As appreciation of their merits, the captains Niklas and Baldhauser were permitted to herd up all and sell the horses of the defeated Hungarians. It is believed that more than 17,000 horses were sold. Emperor Otto the Great awarded Niklas and Baldhauser the rights to hold a yearly horse market in September. Soon the market evolved into a small folk festival, the forerunner of the [[Oktoberfest]].

The food stalls offer typical beer garden meals, such as spareribs, [[Obatzda]], [[Leberkäs]] (meat loaf), Würstl (sausages) and [[Steckerlfisch]] (grilled fish on a stick), as well as modern food such as fish fingers, chicken nuggets and Italian pizza, prepared in a genuine pizza oven by a Naples-born pizza baker.
