The following example includes a 1,500 pixels wide image of the [[Augustiner-Keller]] entrance sign. The code generates a scrollbar below the image on browser and systems that are otherwise not wide enough to display the full width of the image without scrolling of the entire browser window sideways:
:<nowiki>{{wide image|Augustiner-Keller 036.jpg|1500px|Augustiner-Keller}}</nowiki>
{{wide image|Augustiner-Keller 036.jpg|1500px|Augustiner-Keller}}
The wide image box method is best used when displaying images that are wider than 600 pixels, since it prevents them from stretching past the available screen size. Images which are too wide for on small screens can otherwise result in subsequent text-paragraphs and the whole page to require sideways scrolling. Instead, the wide image box makes a page where wide images are shown display optimally also on iPhones and other narrow screen mobile devices, such as small netbooks etciPhones.
