The Bier & Oktoberfest Museum is located in a historical building in the centre of Munich. The museum documents the history of the Oktoberfest and brewing traditions of Bavaria. Various exhibits include written displays on historical events, drawings, photos and brewery related memorabilia and artifacts, such as a collection of Maßkrugs from the first few Oktoberfest events.
Various museum sections are divided between floor levels in this narrow inner-city building, which is one of the oldest and fully restored buildings in the area. On the top floor, a small cinema runs an ongoing documentary about how the Bavarian beer making tradition has evolved from the beginning of small farm and monastery based brewery operations to the present day worldwide export industry that is dominated primarely by six major breweries of Munich. On the ground floor there is a restaurant, bar and a small beer cellar.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday between 1pm and 6pm. The restaurant and bar is open until midnight. Museum, restaurant and bar are all closed on Sundays and public holidays.
