The Bier & Oktoberfest Museum is located in a historical building in the centre of Munich. The museum showcases the history of the Oktoberfest and the beer brewing traditions of Bavaria. Exhibits include many interesting artifacts, such as a collection of Maßkrugs used at the first few Oktoberfest events along with various beer related memorabilia of the former times.
Various sections are divided between floor levels in this narrow inner-city building, which is one of the oldest buildings in the area. On the top floor, a small cinema runs an ongoing documentary about how the Bavarian beer making tradition has evolved from its beginning of small farm or monastery brewery operations to the present day worldwide export industry dominated primarely by six major breweries of Munich. On the ground floor there is a restaurant, bar and a small beer cellar.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday between 1pm and 6pm. The restaurant and bar is open until midnight. Museum, restaurant and bar are all closed on Sundays and public holidays.
