A small cinema runs a highly informative documentary throughout the day about how the Bavarian beer culture has evolved from primitive brewing experiments during medieval times, through innumerable small farm and monastery based brewing operations, up until today's worldwide export industry dominated mainly by six major Munich breweries.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday between 1pm and 6pm. A restaurant and bar on the ground floor remains open until midnight. The museum, restaurant and bar are closed on Sundays and public holidays.
